Java and JavaScript
Until Devoxx, I had never heard of Vaadin. Vaadin is a Java framework built on top of the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) to further simplify the creation of modern and user friendly web applications. While GWT already abstracts away many of the JavaScript details, Vaadin further hides most of the client/server communication.

Based on your bodies anatomy, Herman Miller has been producing chairs that support you in just the right places. One of the main selling points of this rather expensive chair, is that it also adapts the support points when you lean back or sit upright. Up until now, the problem was that the desk didn’t move with you. But now there is the Envelop Desk.

I first was introduced to the tragedy of the commons in Lawrence Lessig’s book “The Future of Ideas”. It deals with the problems that exist when one tries to apply “real life” economic models to digital content. Bits are virtually free, you pay a pittance per bit to your Internet provider. In return you get a copy of every bit that exists on the planet.

Games and Oldskool Fun
Before we really get started in the New Year, here is a final look back at another great casual game of 2009, called Graveyard Shift. While Avalon was all relaxation, Graveyard Shift is about adrenaline. It’s a rail shooter in Flash.
